Our Postgraduate Programmes

Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (incorporating the Centre for Asian Studies) provides a robust platform for research on societies and cultures in China and in an inter-connected Asia, at The University of Hong Kong, and well networked with global academic partners. While deepening existing comparative regional studies of China, the Institute is developing new programmes with strategic alliances in the United States, Europe, East Asia, India, and the Middle East. Key partners include Yale University, the Harvard-Yenching Institute, National Singapore University, Academia Sinica and the Social Science Research Council.

The Institute offers two postgraduate programmes, the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), to students wishing to conduct research on humanities and social sciences in medicine, science and health in East Asia (China, Japan and Korea). The programmes involve members of the Institute, and other faculty members at the University. Candidates will conduct research under the supervision of at least one member of the University¡¦s teaching staff.
